Little Hawk Pygora Ruth Hawkins 127 E 900th Rd Baldwin City 785-840-4085 www.little-hawk-farm.com Little Hawk Farm is a small farm located west of Baldwin City, KS. We have a small herd of Pygora goats, a pair of French Angora rabbits, a flock of chickens, guineas, and a couple loyal guard dogs. We started our farm with the main focus on livestock that produced luxury fiber. We have been breeding and raising Pygora goats for close to 10 years. While we do send most of our fleeces off to a Kansas mill to be processed, I do process some of it by hand, taking the process completely from shearing the goat, spinning the yarn, to a finished product. Spring is an exciting time on the farm, with the Pygora kids being born and bouncing around. While we don't exactly do goat yoga, you are welcome to come meet the goats and bunnies, take your picture with them, and learn more about fiber farming. We will have on going demonstrations during the day, a display of goat to garment products that have been produced from on our farm, and as well as products for sale.
Vinland Valley Nursery Doug Davison and Amy Albright 1606 N 600th Rd Baldwin City 785/594-2966 www.vinlandvalleynursery.com Doug and Amy opened Vinland Valley Nursery to the public in the spring of 1998 with a 50’ x 100’ heated greenhouse and four high tunnels. In structures built from scratch on their 5-acre farm south of Lawrence, that first season they potted hundreds of herbs, flowering annuals, hardy shrubs and trees, and a dizzying array of perennials with loads of help from family and friends. Thus began their full-immersion crash-course in the nursery business. The first organic retail greenhouse and nursery in the area, the biggest and best change in 20 years has been the mainstream embrace of pesticide-free, conservation gardening and growing interest in native plants. Over the last two decades, Vinland Valley Nursery has landscaped college campuses, shipped plants to locations throughout most of the lower 48 states, and supplied plants for everything from art installations to plant sales for fundraisers. The coolest place Vinland Valley plants grow would have to be the Downing Gorilla Forest at the Sedwick County Zoo!
